The clinical effect of liver extract(Adelavin^(¢ç)) on chronic hepatitisc

Abstract
Treatment of liver diseases with mammalian liver preparations has been attempted from early days. Since the 20th century liver extract solution has been widely used but it has been used generally as an empirical basis rather than with its precise pharmacological actions on the liver.
For the. evaluation of the clinical effect of an intravenous preparation of animal liver extract (Adelavin(R), this study was performed on 30 adult hospitalized patients with histologically proven chronic active or chronic pesistent hepatitis.
These patients were randomly allocated into two groups consisting of Adelavin¢ç group(20 cases) and control group(10 cases). Patients classified AdelavinO group were given 2 Ampules(2m1) of Adelavin¢ç in 500m1 of 5% dextrose solution intravenously for 4 weeks.
The results obtained were summarized as follows;
1) In Adelavin(D group, there were much improvements in subjective symptoms as compared with control group.
2) In Adelavin¢ç group, levels of SGPT were decreased significantly after 3 weeks, and it was more rapid then control group.
3) There were no noteworthy side effects in Adelavin¢¥ group.
In conclusion, Adelavin¢ç appears to be safe and effective for the improvements of subjective symptoms and serum transaminase levels in patients with chronic hepatitis, but the long term evaluation of its effect in many patients is needed in the future.
